Night golf at Fairmont St Andrews and other events in suport of WWF';s Earth Hour
The prestigious Torrance Course in St Andrews is teeing up to support WWF’s Earth Hour in a unique way by giving players the chance to take to the greens after dark. At 8.30pm this Saturday (27 March) guests of the Fairmont St Andrews will set off with some unusual looking kit, including glow necklaces, luminous golf balls and day-glo sticks – all in support of global action on climate change.

Meteorologist Heather Reid officially launched the countdown to WWF’s Earth Hour 2010 today (Thursday 4 March) by placing giant light bulbs on a ‘weather map’ of Scotland to highlight the towns, cities, regions, landmarks and organisations signed up so far to go dark on Saturday 27 March.

Scotland on course for biggest ever sign up to WWF's Earth Hour
A record number of Scotland’s local authorities are set to participate in the world’s biggest public event in support of action on climate change – WWF’s Earth Hour, it was revealed today (Monday 1 March).

With a month still to go until the global ‘lights out’ event, 18 of Scotland’s 32 local authorities have already pledged their support – twice as many as this time last year. Many more are poised to officially sign up over the next few weeks.

Climate action: Scottish Government, Councils and trade unions pledge support for WWF's Earth Hour

The Scottish Government pledged its support for WWF’s Earth Hour, the world’s largest climate change awareness event, which will take place on Saturday 27 March 2010.

Stewart Stevenson, Minister for Climate Change, announced the Government’s support for the event during today’s climate debate in the Scottish Parliament.

COSLA and the STUC also announced their support for WWF’s Earth Hour today calling on the hundreds of thousands of individuals and members they represent to take part next year and show the world they care about climate change.
