Rally Success at Holyrood

23 April 2009

WWF Scotland, as part of the Stop Climate Chaos coalition, attend a rally in support of the Scottish Climate Change Bill

Over 600 supporters from the Stop Climate Chaos Scotland coalition helped to 'plant'  1,000 stick figures on the grass outside parliament as a representation of the thousands of people in Scotland and around the world who signed up to support a strong Scottish Climate Change Bill.  Some 30 MSPs - from all parties - came out to join us.

The Rally was timed to coincide with the run up to the next stage of the Scottish Climate Change Bill. The rally attracted national media coverage and sent a strong message to the Scottish Parliament that people in Scotland want a world-leading Bill.

In order to ensure that Scotland does indeed have the strong, world-leading climate legislation more than 20,000 respondents to the Scottish Government indicated they would like to see, it needs to:

  • Include statutory annual targets of at least 3% year-on-year reductions.
  • Include all the emissions from international aviation and shipping in the targets.
  • Limit carbon trading so that at least 80% of the reductions are made in Scotland.
