Scotland welcomes ‘World Leading’ climate target
24 June 2009
Scottish Parliament unanimously votes for 42% reduction target in Climate Change Bill
Commenting on today’s vote on the Scottish Climate Change Bill, which includes a 42% cut in emissions by 2020, Mike Robinson Chair of Stop Climate Chaos Scotland said:
“The inclusion of the 42% target is hugely significant. It means Scotland’s Climate Change Bill has the toughest target of any industrialised nation in the world and will be held up as an example, ahead of the climate talks in Copenhagen in December, of what can and should be done. This is a moral commitment and we hope other developed nations will hear this call for action and follow Scotland’s lead. All MSPs now have a responsibility to do what is necessary to deliver on the 42% target.”
